Lion rampant ermine

G'day @TilmannR: , I was wondering whether you could create a lion rampant ermine, that is not such a large file size. If possible could the lion be based on this lion rampant, as you did with File:Lion rampant collared forked.svg. Regards Newm30 (talk) 11:50, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

G'day @Newm30: Which type of ermine spots would you like? TilmannR (talk) 14:23, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
@TilmannR: I think this one is suitable. Regards Newm30 (talk) 00:26, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
@Newm30: ✓ Done. Just out of curiosity: What did you end up doing with the Lion rampant collared forked.svg? TilmannR (talk) 10:15, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
@TilmannR: Thanks for creating the file. Much appreciated. I had a clear reason for the lion rampant collared with forked tail, however I couldn't locate the arms to be created afterwards and will review my lists soon. Might be a version of Turberville or Tyson. Will get onto investigating and create soon. Regards Newm30 (talk) 10:58, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

Lion rampant vair

@TilmannR: , I was wondering whether you could create a lion rampant vair, that is not such a large file size. If possible could the lion be based on the lion you used with File:Gules a lion rampant ermine.svg. Regards Newm30 (talk) 09:44, 2 March 2019 (UTC)

FYI - File:Lion rampant collared forked.svg was needed for File:Arms of John de Havering (d.1309).svg - Thank you. Newm30 (talk) 10:16, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
@Newm30: ✓ Done. TilmannR (talk) 10:30, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks @TilmannR: , the lion rampant vair looks fantastic and is exactly what I needed. Thanks for your help in creating these heraldic images, it is very much appreciated. I have a few more requests which, if it is not too onerous, place on here over time? Please advise if you think I am requesting too many. Regards Newm30 (talk) 07:57, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Whether I'm going to take your requests depends on how much work it takes to complete them. In the previous two cases I only had to apply an SVG pattern to an existing lion. (That's a sufficiently basic task, that you might want to learn how to do it yourself.) Perhaps these requests should be made on the Commons:Graphic_Lab/Illustration_workshop page, so that other graphists get a chance to see them. TilmannR (talk) 11:20, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks @TilmannR: , I will do that. I would not like to push my welcome. Regards Newm30 (talk) 07:38, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Auto-replacement

Hi,

I did a test of replacement with en:WP:AWB on File:Alaman.svg, see Special:Diff/337454850. The idea is to automatically fill the field tincture - when it's empty - based on the category (and remove the said category since tincture autogenerate the category).

What do you think? Is it correct? Is it a good idea and should I continue on all files?

Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 17:36, 2 February 2019 (UTC)

@VIGNERON: In this particular case the file was over-categorized, because "Or an eagle sable beaked, langued and membered gules" is a subcategory of "Gules, Or, sable in heraldry". This raises two questions:
  • Can you extract tincture information from subcategories like the aforementioned "Or an eagle sable etc."?
  • Can you suppress automatic categorization, when it would cause over-categorization?
TilmannR (talk) 00:26, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
@TilmannR: good catch, I didn't think about that point and I fear I have no way to detect it. Do you know a way or a tool to detect over-categorization?
That said, I'm planning to start from the main categories (like Gules, Or, sable in heraldry here) and this file shouldn't have been placed in this category in the first place. So my plan will not add over-categorization but it will not correct the file over-categorized.

@VIGNERON: What is User:NKohli (WMF)/imagery.js (seems out of function)? @over-cat: Cat-a-lot has such feature.
@Tincture: I agree. There is also MediaWiki:Gadget-InformationToCOA.js, where we could implement this. What are you Regexps? PS: Maybe there is also User:Perhelion/simpleSVGcheck.js which could take this. -- User: Perhelion 15:20, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
@VIGNERON: Note that a file's tincture categories can be misleading. E.g. Duval (2) blason.png is in Azure in heraldry, but isn't in Argent and azure in heraldry (while actually belonging in Azure a fess argent). Filling its tincture field with azure alone would be incorrect. I don't believe the categories are sufficiently reliable for this auto-replacement to be advisable. TilmannR (talk) 15:53, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
@Perhelion: my idea is super-simple, I'm just harvesting the low-hanging fruits : if there is already the template COAInformation and if the field tincture is empty, then add the letters based on the category and it would be done one by one, if Category:Gules, Or, sable in heraldry then o/g/s.
@TilmannR: very true but as I'm using AWB, I'm manually checking each and every change. I may not spot every error but most would probably be discovered (and for the record, I already did hundreds of thousands of replacements with AWB on others projects, mainly fr.ws).

The First European Conference of Uniformologists

Dear collegues! I know that The First European Conference of Uniformologists is planned in October 2019 (Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History, Brussels, Belgium). This is also part of our Uniformology project. For your WikiProject it is interesting? Is there any interest in participating in this event? — Niklitov (talk) 20:51, 28 September 2019 (UTC) (WMRU)

Heraldry concerns itself with coats of arms, so unless there is a special session dedicated to military heraldry, unit insignia, or some such, I don't see how WikiProject Heraldry should have a particular interest in this conference. It might, however, be interesting on a personal level for some users, so thank you for the notice. De728631 (talk) 17:27, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
