How Do I Delete Images?
[edit]How do I delete images that I have aleady uploaded. I am trying to take off my image because I accidently hit the upload button instead of the preview button and I didn't get the right license.
- If you get the wrong license, you can always change it later. Just hit the "edit" button above the "licensing" section. --The High Fin Sperm Whale (Talk · Contribs) 04:20, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
- If you really wanted actually delete a file, the only thing you can do is contact an Admin. --The High Fin Sperm Whale (Talk · Contribs) 06:57, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Outdated
[edit]This page seems rather outdated: it does a good job of describing the old basic upload form, but not the new JavaScript-enhanced form nor the even-newer upload wizard. It also doesn't describe the now standard {{Information}} template, although that one's at least mentioned in Commons:First steps/Quality and description. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 12:21, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Date
[edit]The upload form asks for "Date of creation and/or first publication of the work". In the case of a two-dimensional image like a painting or paper document that has been scanned or digitally photographed, does this date refer to the date of the painting or paper document, or to the date of the scan/digital photograph? --Jc3s5h (talk) 15:41, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- For files that are simply digitized versions of non-digital works, I believe the "date" field should generally refer to the date when the original work was created. Things get a little more complicated if the work has been substantially retouched after digitization, such that the digitized version could qualify as a separate (derivative) work with its own copyright.
- Note that you're free to specify more than one date on the upload form, e.g. "original painting c. 1852, scanned and retouched 2009-06-24." In general, if you have any doubt about which date to use, I'd recommend providing all the possibly relevant dates: it's always better to provide some unnecessary information than to omit something necessary. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 17:30, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Rewriting files
[edit]How do you overwrite a file you uploaded? I have two files (Manning Park Cascades.jpg and Manning Park.jpg) that I found I have higher resolution versions which I want to replace the current versions with. --The High Fin Sperm Whale (Talk · Contribs) 04:24, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Naming convention
[edit]Needs to be expanded in terms of artwork ... Neither "4. Set an appropriate file name" does not cover this topic, nor w:Wikipedia:Article titles which is referred to (not even the German Wikipedia edition provides a policy/guideline → de:WP:NK). I would suggest to add:
Files containing artwork should providel the following information in the file name: <last name> - <first name> - <title (by the painter)> - <year/decade/century>. Also, other important information such as attributions and styles may be included, if applicable.
I'm kind of sick seeing file names like File:Hans von Aachen 010.jpg etc. This structure is not really professional. We need discussion and consenus here. ... anyone?

About copyright images
[edit]I don't really see the difference of uploading a photo to Wikipedia itself and not being accused of a violation and I don't see why uploading an image to the Commons is okay, but only if its "your work!!" Can someone please tell me what the hell is wrong with that?! OZODOR (talk) 00:48, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- You need to word your question much more clearly if you want to have an answer to it. Your question as it stands makes no sense. KDS4444 (talk) 10:13, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

Button labels interfere with translation in ja
[edit]Are you going to edit the en text, so that word order will not be so difficult for some language to match the sentence structure?
Issue: Translation memory will be disturbed at _Translations:Commons:First steps/Uploading files/31/ja_ as in en it reads "click", but we need to alter to "next" in ja, so as to accommodate the position of button labels set among the paragraph.
Please see the paragraph starting with _Translations:Commons:First steps/Uploading files/28/ja_ and ending with _Translations:Commons:First steps/Uploading files/33/ja_. You have two button labels:
- Translations:Commons:First steps/Uploading files/29/ja
- Translations:Commons:First steps/Uploading files/32/ja
The word order here does not match SOV/SCV languages including ja, where the verb comes at the end of the sentence. --Omotecho (talk) 05:27, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
Flow
[edit]The previous First Step pages had a link with a green button to the next First Steps page. Shouldn't there be one here as well? — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheChessTyper (talk • contribs) 13:59, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
Layout
[edit]The onboarding tour and the First Steps tutorial offer different and somewhat inconsistent layouts. It seems as if the inital idea was to provide an engaging sequence, based on Cards. Should something clearer such as Mediawiki Main Page be considered? Script.meta (talk) 17:12, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
- Their template refers to the
.css
class"mainpage_box"
; would not it be great for Commons:First steps? Script.meta (talk) 17:12, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
