Noticed the featured picture discussion several weeks after the nomination. One clarification is in order: this photograph does not have 'noise,' but rather 'grain.' Noise is an artifact of electronic interference in digital photography; grain is characteristic of high speed film for indoor use during the pre-digital era. Grain is a normal aspect of photography from the era when this photo was taken and was often an artistic choice when lighting conditions permitted different film speeds because grain was considered appropriate for male subjects.
