Items discussed

[edit]

In the past years, we have sent briefing. We are experimenting to see if a call works better. Session will be in partnership track 'connect and collaborate': how wikimedia affiliates (every recognized group really, except WMF) /wmf could work better together on the different projects. WLM could fit well in, as cross-affiliate project.

Session proposal was submitted, not set in stone & input welcome. WLM int team has chosen 4 projects to focus on, and the question is whether we can involve groups to work with us. For example, Wikidata migration, which is complicated both socially and technically. We want countries to step up & enter process this year. We want to present the project in a coherent way, and hear concerns, opportunities, commitments. Data enrichment (especially when moving to wikidta) on monument data - we will look into a gigentic 'datathon' in August. Need to hear who's in, who's out and why, how we can help them. It will be a set of back and forth conversations, not just broadcasting.

Cornelius is happy with that, didn't read into description. We shouldn't fall in the trap that we just will explain WLM for 40 min. Most will have participated at one time or another. Maybe we will spend 5-7 min on explaining the concept, numbers etc to make sure everyone is on the same page. Cornelius is looking for outcome oriented sessions, and this sounds like achievable.

(A) Lily will explain a bit more about the goals/description. But how long? Add links where available. We have until next week Thu to change (same file).

  • Documentation is key. Lily wants to find 2 people at the beginning of the session to document. We did full documentation in the past, and a summary later on. Normally, WMDE can provide a volunteer for note taking, and they would process notes. If we can manage, that would be great to them.

Plan: We do our own documentation, WMDE will receive our summary.

  • After the conference: there's a bunch of stuff we need to do, including wikimania submission. We want people to move their country to 'definitely participating' as soon as possible. Also get a better idea of who wants to be part of wikidata migration and data enrichment effort in August (especially 'oldtimers'). We want to frontload as much as possible.
  • The room is long shaped, with U-setup. Screen & projector. Facilitation stuff is provided. Max 40-50 people with a chair.

(A) Cornelius will inform us of estimated distances & screen sizes.

  • Schedule will be drafted in 2 weeks.

[TODO]

  • Lily to update the description in the Google doc to reflect the discussion about specific projects.
  • Cornelius to get back to Lily about how deep the room is for slide deck preparation.
