Potanthus satra (Tropic dart) male dorsal

Reason en:Wikipedia does not recognise this species, whether as a species or as a subspecies: Potanthus confucius satra. I have created a Commons category as Sri Lankan specialists/iNaturalist recognise it. -- Charlesjsharp (talk)

Topic too controversial no official recognition... --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 05:21, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Question Who is considered 'official' I wonder? Experts always seem to disagree on taxonomy. This species is Potanthus satra C. & R. Felder, 1862 and Fruhstorfer, 1911. Recognized by Project Noah and by Hareschandra Jayaneththi, Butterfly Fauna of Madampa-Lake Sanctuary, Ambalangoda, Southwest Sri Lanka – Checklist Reported During 2009-2010 and see new taxonomy at [1] and in this book [2] Charlesjsharp (talk) 09:02, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • The Sri Lankan government recognizes this species while agreeing it is 'problematic'. It is therefore particularly valuable to have a VI of this species on Commons. [3]. If the taxonomy changes then the VI can be updated as with all dozens of species each year. Charlesjsharp (talk) 10:35, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
* Government recognition of a species is an unexpected argument. More seriously, an A' or even A rank publication would be welcome. --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 05:13, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
