Scope | Nominated as the most valued image on Commons within the scope: Saint Eutropius, bishop and martyr, sarcophagus. Saintes, Charente-Maritime, France. |
Used in | Eutrope de Saintes, Eutropius of Saintes, Basilique Saint-Eutrope de Saintes |
Reason | Best in scope IMO, in very difficult lighting conditions, for this monolithic sarcophagus of the saint, of the early Middle Ages (a cenotaph). Eutropius was the first bishop of Saintes, and a martyr. This piece is in the choir of the crypt of the Basilica, which is really worth a visit, as one of the best examples of the romanesque architecture. Geocoded. -- Jebulon (talk) |
