Sandstone head of Buddha surrounded by the roots of a Bodhi tree in Wat Mahathat, old city of Ayutthaya, today Ayyuthaya Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Thailand. The city of Ayutthaya was founded by King Ramathibodi I in 1350 and was the capital of the country until its destruction by the Burmese army in 1767. The head of Buddha in Ayyuthaya is one of the most famous landmarks of Thailand. According to a myth the head was stolen and hidden in this place. When the thief came back to recover his loot, he couldn't because the Bodhi tree held it.
