Main stairwell of the Museum of the City of Mexico located in the heart of Mexico City, a few blocks south of the Zocalo. The building, founded in 1536, was the palace of the Counts of Santiago de Calimaya, descendents of one of the conquistadors with whom Hernán Cortés shared the city. The house was extensively remodeled to much the appearance that it has today and remained in the family until 1960, when the Mexico City government acquired it from them in order to found the current Museum.
