- Info A regional express RENFE 440 series train serving the route Madrid - Barcelona crossing the Jalón River near Embid de la Ribera, province of Zaragoza, Aragón, Spain. This area, known as Hoces del Río Jalón (in English sickles of the Jalon River), near the bigger town of Calatayud, is famous for its particular landscape with highs and lows due to the erosion of the sinuous river resulting in lots of tunnels and bridges. - Neutral very nice motif and good composition. But imo the lighting is not really that great. --Martin Falbisoner (talk) 10:13, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
- Neutral per Martin. --Ivar (talk) 11:55, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose The composition doesn't showcase the actual subject in a interesting or even dramatic way. This lacks the wow one should expect to see in an FPC. Saffron Blaze (talk) 16:22, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose Looks tilted, unless the track is actually tilted. I agree with Martin Falbisoner and Saffron Blaze on the points they mentioned. — Julian H.✈ (talk/files) 16:54, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
- I withdraw my nomination The outcome of this nomination is really surprising to me. Managing this shot was really a lot of work in terms of preparation, exploring the area, waiting time, climbing, among others,... and I liked the result indeed. Thanks anyhow for the feedback. - Comment The location is definitely great, I think you should give it another go in spring/summer, when the sun is high enough to light the valley. A 45° angle between sun and track usually gives good results. E.g. see File:RENFE Class 470 Embid de Jalón.jpg (
however that picture needs a wider cropnew version). --Kabelleger (talk) 22:05, 1 February 2014 (UTC)- Don't doubt it. I will try it again :) Poco2 23:55, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
- Btw Kabelleger, please, let me know if you are around that area somewhen! Poco2 07:34, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
- I saw this today and thought on your image: http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnmeans/12240744226/ Your location offers even more dramatic appeal with the right light and angle. Saffron Blaze (talk) 01:45, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the hint. The Renfe regional train is though by far not as interesting as the one in this picture. Furthermore trains here transit seldom (4-5 times per day), but I will try to make several captures in sommer Poco2 07:34, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
- I beg to differ. Many american locomotives only vary little in shape, even across manufacturers. Plus you can find this sort of engine all over the world. The RENFE 440/470 have a pretty unique shape (we call them "Backstein", "brick"), and they only run in Spain and Chile (afaik), thus I think the latter are way more interesting. (btw. maybe we'll pay Spain another visit in autumn - don't know yet). --Kabelleger (talk) 13:11, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
- You're problably right because my opinion is spoiled afer having seen these trains since I was a kid, and your opinion is surely more objective for this topic. Give me a shout if your plans to visit Spain get confirmed. Poco2 13:31, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
