- Could you please explain how images are categorized? For technical reasons, categories on Commons should be in English, however your uploads are categorized in subcategories of Category:Vahan Totovenc that don't use names in English. Is there a good reason for this? Patrícia msg 21:42, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- The category names reflect the original Armenian names for the works, e.g. scanned images of a work named "Իմ հորաքույրը" (Im horakuyry - My aunt) are in the category category:Իմ հորաքույրը. The works themselves are also categorized by the Authors, whose title-categories are in English. The reason behind the Armenian names is purely one of convenience and convention (the scans of the work come from a category with the same name), these categories are to be used only with the works, which themselves are in Armenian. This seems to be a more or less common practice (compare to scanned texts in other languages). ― Teak 05:09, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- I have also mentioned to the user a bit about how commons images ought to have ASCII characters if at all possible: Commons:Language_policy#Name_of_files. Patstuart (talk) 18:06, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- It is possible of course, though it would be hugely inconvenient, since there is no uniform ASCII transliteration of Armenian, and scanned Armenian texts would be hardly ever used outside of Armenian projects. ― Teak 00:08, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
