I am an applied mathematics postdoc at UCLA. I made my first edit on common in January 2006. Since January 2007 I have made 303 edits and in that time I created and uploaded 83 original pictures. See also my picture gallery where I list some of the pictures I created.

I plan to use the admin tools very responsibly, and on a need basis (as I've been doing on the English Wikipedia, where I've been an admin for two and a half years). So far, I've found the tools most useful in managing the images I upload, in the future I may get involved in other activities also.

This is my second attempt at adminship, I withdrew from the first one in April when I realized I did not have enough edits and familiarity with commons. I believe I am better prepared now. Oleg Alexandrov 03:06, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at my contributions, you will see that those 300 edits are almost all in the last six months when I took an active interest in commons.
And if I may suggest, commons is about media first, and edits second. I have 37,000 edits on the English Wikipedia, but the 300 edits at commons amount to hundreds of hours in the last six months in creating 87 original pictures and then tweaking and reuploading a bunch more. •  Oppose - I'm sure this guy is a great candidate and his contributions on Wikipedia are very impressive but I don't feel that he has provided adequate justification for being an admin here. Adambro 19:58, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The tools are rather handy in deleting images I don't want anymore or I uploaded by mistake. Yes, that can be done by placing a speedy tag, but it is more convenient done by myself.
Adminship is not about using the tools all the time. It is about trust. I believe I am very active at commons in terms of actual contributions, and my record of being an administartor for two years on the English Wikipedia, creating images, and writing content shows that I can be trusted. I don't see why you'd want more than that. Oleg Alexandrov 20:46, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify my reason for opposing at this time, whilst I agree that trust is one of the key considerations and I don't have any reason to doubt you are trustworthy, I however don't see any evidence of contributing to the administration or maintenance of Commons in your contributions. I don't wish to see adminship turned into some kind of badge of how trustworthy as user is, rather I see it as recognition that a user can help the project more with the admin buttons. Your current contributions don't suggest to me that this is the case as there are many ways in which you can help without being an admin. Adambro 22:09, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am not looking for a badge of any kind. The tools will be helpful in my work, that's all. Oleg Alexandrov 00:42, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak  Support (until he explains a need for the tools) This user seems to be a pretty active user and is definitely a good admin at the English Wikipedia. I don't see edit count as a sole reason to oppose someone, he meets the minimum, end of it. If you wish to comment on the actual contributions and not solely their number. I think Oleg would make a valuable addition to the sysop team. If Marcus Cyron is right and you will rarely edit/act here, then you will get desysopped for inactivity. Right now, you seem like a good user. If this adminiship request does (or if it doesn't) I'd like to see more maintenance activity. Good luck! :) Cbrown1023 talk 20:04, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've made roughly a hundred edits in each of the the last two months. I would argue that is rather active as far as Commons goes. And again, commons is not about edits, it is about creating content. Oleg Alexandrov 20:46, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Um... that's exactly what I said... :-P I also did not say that you weren't active, I was just saying that if that guy up there really did think you would just suddenly stop editing, it wouldn't matter. :) Cbrown1023 talk 20:49, 16
  •  Support Trusted user on en, isn't going to go on a deletion spree. I don't care if he deletes 5 images, or 555... the fact is we have a lot of backlogs, and we can do with all the help we can get. I cannot see why this user shouldn't be an admin. I don't think this has a chance, so I withdraw my nomination. I'll try to explain the need for tools better next time. Oleg Alexandrov 01:35, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • It is unclear to me what you need the admin tools for. Do you only want to use them for your own images? I see that you have only a few edits in the Commons and User talk namespace, so I wouldn't call you very experienced on Commons. -- Bryan (talk to me) 22:01, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
