I joined the Commons on 27 July 2006, but did not upload my first image until 11 November 2006. Since then I have uploaded close to 2,000 images, almost all automotive and have made over 6,000 edits. I still have a large backlog of c. 500 images to upload on my computer (editing and obtaining the correct vehicle names is very time consuming). I have been quite active in transferring images from Wikipedia (not just en) and Flickr. Unfortunately, I have been less active in this lately due to my massive increase of self-made image uploads. If I were to be granted adminship, I would like to be more active in tasks such as fixing categories to naming standards, patrolling the incorrectly named images category as well as deleting blatant copyright infringements and nominating suspicious images (there are lots of automotive images of such around). On top of this, adminship would allow me to approve Flickr image licenses which would be helpful when I get back to uploading Flickr images in large quantities again. I feel that the administrator tools would greatly facilitate the above and my general day-to-day editing. OSX (talk) 13:40, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also, to the best of my knowledge, none of the other "major" automotive photographers here on the Commons have access to adminship. Hence, I could be someone with comprehensive knowledge within this interest group, helping out whenever there is an issue requiring assistance. •  Support Fantastic editor on Wikipedia and Commons who spends a great deal of time correcting mistakes, creating categories, as well as contributing photographs of vehicles. I truly feel that this editor will be valuable and stable to the community and project plus someone who could be trusted with Administrative tools. Bidgee (talk) 11:49, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak  Oppose. This user makes great contributions to Commons, and no question about trust. I just don't see much experience related to admin.-work, and most of the reasons given for seeking adminship (fixing categories, tagging suspicious images, approve Flickr image licenses) are tasks that could be done without the sysop.-tools.Finn Rindahl (talk) 15:06, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
One of the tasks I would like to undertake is the standardisation of categories. This is going to require the deletion of incorrectly-named categories. I also believe the rename tool would be useful for images. There are 1000s of incorrectly named car images here (by that I mean wrong make/model/years, not poor formatting), and mass-listing these images would create excessive backlogs. It would be easier for both myself, and existing administrators if I could responsibly do this individually. Also, the number of blatant (i.e. professional/company images) copyvios I've come across is unacceptable, and it is usually very hard to prove that an image taken by Toyota for example is not a user's own work. While I respect your decision Finn Rindahl, I do hope you can see where I am coming from. Regards. OSX (talkcontributions) 05:31, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure I understand the "hope you can see where I am coming from" part here... ;) As I wrote, my oppose is a "weak" one, and should this turn out to be a close vote where my oppose would tip the balance 75-25 I will probably switch to "neutral". For now I'm leaving it as it is, and hope that even if this request should be unsuccessful that would not discourage you from continuing your contributions.  Comment Can you enable email please, standard practice for Commons admins (& those who would like to be). Thanks --Herby talk thyme 13:44, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I knew I would forget something. OSX (talkcontributions) 13:57, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment I know it doesn't necessarily make a difference in your fitness for the admin but, but have you considered that there might be concern over the use of a trademark as your user name? If it's never come up before, then feel free to ignore me. :)--J.smith (talk) 16:50, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am not going to lie, it has crossed my mind, however, this is not an overly controversial name like Microsoft or Panasonic. Also, I "pronounce" my user name as "O" "S" "X" not "O" "S" "10". The Mac OS X name itself is also fairly generic. The "OS" stands for operating system and "X" is the Roman numeral for 10, so the level of creativity there is almost nill (I guess that would make my level of creativity for the name "negative nill"). I do hope that this does not become a problem though. To my knowledge something like this has only ever come up once, that is, someone linking my name to the OS in the Wikipedia Signpost regarding the FAR of Windows XP.
