Standard way of disambiguation would be rather "Threads (textile)". See also en:Thread --Foroa (talk) 07:02, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fine with that too. Wizard191 (talk) 14:06, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect hierarchy

[edit]

I'm putting the notes here before I commence reorganization. In the textile industry, "thread" is a specialized type of yarn, not the other way around. Therefore, the thread category belongs under yarn, which needs to be its own category. Currently it is a subcategory of knitting, which is problematic not only because of the incorrect hierarchy, but because all textile processes use yarn, including weaving and sewing, not just knitting. A definition of yarn and reference to this being the generic term can be found here: http://www.celanese.com/textile_glossary_filament_acetate.pdf

"Yarn: A generic term for a continuous strand of textile fibers, filaments, or material in a form suitable for knitting, weaving, or otherwise intertwining to form a textile fabric. Yarn occurs in the following forms: (1) a number of fibers twisted together (spun yarn); (2) a number of filaments laid together without twist (a zero-twist yarn); (3) a number of filaments laid together with a degree of twist; (4) a single filament with or without twist (a monofilament); or (5) a narrow strip of material, such as paper, plastic film, or metal foil, with or without twist, intended for use in a textile construction."
