Category talk:STL polyhedra
Move
[edit]I'd like to have "Polyhedra; STL files" renamed to "STL polyhedra".
When I created this category, I was following the naming scheme used by sets of solids (e.g. most of the subcategories of Category:Sets of all Platonic solids). I wasn't aware that SVGs already had a strong naming convention (Help:SVG#Category_naming_conventions), which should also be applied to STLs for the sake of consistency. This category is only a month old, so changing its name shouldn't cause any problems.
For the same reason "Prismatoids; STL files" should be renamed to "STL prismatoids". Talk: Prismatoids; STL files

Hi! I have some feedback regarding your recent changes to the STL polyhedra category structure:
- "STL" is not a style, but a file type. In my opinion neither "STL polyhedra" nor "SVG polyhedra" belong in "Polyhedra by style".
- "Set of Archimedean solids; STL", "Set of Johnson solids; STL" etc. should be named "STL Archimedean solids", "STL Johnson solids" etc. based on Help:SVG#Category_naming_conventions.
- "Category:Set of Archimedean solids; Wireframe STL files" was renamed twice, so it's now redirecting to a redirection. Will this be cleaned up by some bot or should we fix it manually? "Category:Set of Archimedean solids; STL files (wireframe)" seems like a candidate for speedy deletion.

- @TilmannR:
- I renamed it to Polyhedra by presentation.
- Please note that this renaming would broaden the scope of these categories. I don't mind if you rename Set of Archimedean solids; STL to STL Archimedean solids etc. But please don't do that for the solid and wireframe subcategories. These are actual image sets, because the images have more in common than just the motive and the file type. Someone else could upload wireframe STL files of Archimedean solids in a different style, and they would not be part of this set.
- I doubt there is a bot for that. I chose the speedy deletion.
- BTW : The reason I created STL polyhedra; wireframe was so I can add it to Skeletonic representations of polyhedra (and to Wireframes of 3D objects). Greetings, Watchduck (quack) 10:00, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
- I renamed where appropriate, and clearly marked the image sets. Theoretically one could create STL Kepler-Poinsot solids and STL icosahedron stellations as wrappers around the two sets. But categories with only one member can create more confusion than they prevent. In this case I would avoid them. Watchduck (quack) 18:19, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
