Rename

[edit]

I suggest that it is better to rename to Category:Gantry road signs. It will be extremely rare that we are talking of a gantry FOR road signs, which doesn't HAVE road signs on it. So Category:Gantry road signs covers both, but follows the sign category structure, rather than us needing a separate one for that. Also fits Category:Gantry signs. In many countries, the gantry is not considered to be a part of the road sign (btw, many gantries have more functions). Many types of road signs which are used at gantries can be placed as well at some different supporting device. Such signs are not specific as "gantry signs" but they are general signs placed on a gantry. A type of the supporting structure or mounting bracket shouldn't be confused with the type of the sign itself. --ŠJů (talk) 00:27, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, but in this case we will end up with two parallel structures. We will need the following categories:
  • Gantry signs
    • Gantry road signs
  • Sign gantries
    • Road sign gantries.
I don't oppose that, but it seems a big step. But okay, let's go for that. Ingolfson (talk) 06:04, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think we need right away 4 categories and parallel category trees. We have very little images of non-road gantry signs and non-road sign gantries, the parent category Category:Gantries is sufficient for now. It's also no need to have two duplicate categories, "Gantry road signs" and "Road sign gantries". The specific component is the gantry as the supporting structure. Signs are parallely categorized by their kind and meaning - many of signs placed on gantries are not specific for gantries but can be used also in different way. --ŠJů (talk) 17:52, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Street furniture

[edit]

Should road sign gantries also have the category of Street furniture? --Mjrmtg (talk) 02:32, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
