One standard here

[edit]

This category Category:Computer Aided Design (CAD) has the same name as Category:CAD, only written differently. Shouldn't we just merge the two.

Now I noticed this category name is in the line of

But on the other hand there is still

Shouldn't we get one standard here?

  •  Support Good initiative. Abbevriations should not be used as category names as they mean different things in different languages, why CIM and CAE have been renamed. I'd suggest to put a {{move|Per Commons naming conventions}} request on it. --Foroa (talk) 19:31, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, for your support. But I am not sure yet. That is why, I now ask first. I guess my proposal would be:

  1. Merge the Category:CAD in the Category:Computer Aided Design (CAD)
  2. And rename the following three cats
    1. Category:CAAD to Category:Computer Aided Architectural Design (CAAD)
    2. Category:CAM to Category:Computer Aided Machining (CAM)
    3. Category:CNC to Computer Numerical Control (CNC)

Now I noticed some more categories, and this won't be the last.

So what should we do here? -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 22:44, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My first proposal is to merge the Category:CAD in the Category:Computer Aided Design (CAD) because, it seems, both have the same name and subject. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 22:44, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Right. I am not sure about cats like Category:CAAD drawings as there is little chance that they will conflict with other acronyms. I think that its better to change 2D CAD into 2D Computer Aided Design to remain coherent. QCAD should become QCAD (program) I guess. --Foroa (talk) 23:03, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree, thats in general why I created the Category:Computer Aided Design (CAD). --WikipediaMaster (talk) 17:54, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
