English: These photo show a "spirit wall" (i.e. screen wall positioned to block the view through the gate) inside the main gate of the Ming Culture Village, on the Yangshan Quarry site near Nanjing. The outer side of the wall (facing the gate) has the inscription 天下第一碑 (Tianxia di-yi bei - "World's No. 1. Stele"), referring to the giant unfinished stele which the visitors are going to see in the quarry. The inner side has a relief displaying scenes from the life of the Ming Empire - with, presumably, the Yongle Emperor presiding on a throne in the middle of it, and a bixi tortoise watching over the proceedings from the right bottom corner.
