Dorney Park's "Steel Force" roller coaster opened Memorial Day weekend 1997.
Planning for the coaster began in 1995, and final approval by South Whitehall Township was received in 1996. Construction began in September 1996. At the time of it's opening, it was the tallest coaster on the east coast. The ride lifts its passengers 200 feet into the air before dropping them 205 feet into a maze of twists, turns and camelback bumps at speeds up to 75mph.
Over the years since its opening, longer coasters have been built, however, it remains the tenth-longest steel roller coaster in the world and remains a thrilling ride for roller coaster fans.
