English: Daniel Chester French: (American, 1850-1931): Statue of the Republic, gilded bronze. The 65 foot (20 m) original statue erected in 1892/1893 in the Grand Basin at the World's Columbian Exposition was destroyed by fire in 1896; a one-third scale bronze replica (1918) by Daniel Chester French is located at the former fair's ground in Jackson Park.
