Reginald Scaife was a British businessman who went to Melbourne in 1853, backed by London entrepreneurs, to set up a "minting press" and to capitalise on the gold rush. However, there were many like him and his business wasn't a success[1]. He struck commemorative tin coins at the 1854 Melbourne Exhibition. He is best known for his "Port Phillip Gold Tokens"[2]. One of the people backing him was Dr Thomas Hodgkin, who has signed the Stamping press sales document, which relates to this press.
