Princess Charlotte's Battery is a four-gun, 18th Century battery, almost obliterated by two centuries of site upgrades, including infilling and Merlon removal. An early 1860s Ordnance Survey map appears to show the battery labelled 'Princess Charlotte's or 5th Willis's Battery' as it was built. A War Office plan, entitled Record Plan Of Princess Royal Battery, and dated January 31st 1895, shows the battery renamed, and upgraded to a single breach-loading 6" gun.

The most obvious remains of Princess Charlotte's Battery are the retaining wall supporting its platform and the block wall in front of the mortar battery position.
