English: In antiquity, a parapet enclosed the three sides of the Temple of Athena Nike on the Acropolis, and consisted of marble slabs around one meter in height. Those slabs were decorated with marble reliefs. This is a slab from the west side, found in fragments throughout the 20th century. It depiicts the goddess Athena sitting on a rock, perhaps watching the bull sacrifice next to her. The upper part of her torso is not preserved. Acropolis Museum inv. no 991, Athens Greece.
