Former utility company in New Orleans, "New Orleans Public Service Incorporated", often called "NOPSI". Established in 1922 by City charter, by 1926 all electric, gas, and public transit companies within the city were subsumed into NOPSI. Electric and gas revenues partly subsidized streetcars and buses, as efficient reasonably priced public transit was considered a public good. Transit was spun off to the Regional Transit Authory (RTA) in 1983, and NOPSI was subsumed into Entergy in 1989.
