Arms of Ferrers of Tamworth Castle, Warwickshire (arms of Ferrers, Earl of Derby): Vairy or and gules
Branch founded by Thomas Ferrers (1395–1459) (a younger son of w:William Ferrers, 5th Baron Ferrers of Groby (1372–1445)) who as a younger son did not inherit Groby and thus dropped the use of the arms of Ferrers (modern) (de Quincy of Groby) and reverted back to Ferrers (ancient) (arms of Ferrers, Earl of Derby). He married Elizabeth de Freville, heiress of Tamworth Castle and was the ancestor of Ferrers of Tamworth and Ferrers of Baddesley Clinton. Groby Castle and the title Baron Ferrers of Groby passed via his niece to the Grey family and thus his descendants became the only surviving male lines of the Ferrers family.
